On January 11th, 2011 at 3 o'clock in the morning, I received a email with the follow subject line:
"Would you Shoot in China?"
The first answer that came to mind was,
"Sure. But when did China move to Nigeria, you web-scammin' bastard!"
I resisted the urge to send that response. I instead played along as if it was a legitimate inquiry.
It was. A creative director in Shanghai saw The People of Detroit on flickr.com. She hired me to shoot an 8-portrait commercial ad campaign for McDonald's China.
The campaign went live this summer. Here it is:
